Dental Health Important As We Age

For all the stories about people being afraid to visit the dentist, a lot of people take their dental health quite seriously. Still, there is room for improvement.

A survey conducted jointly by Crest, Oral-B, and AARP found that dental health ranks as one of the top three medical concerns of the over-50 generation, with 75 percent agreeing that “my dental and oral health care are very important.” In keeping with that, 74 percent say they visit a dentist at least twice a year, and 78 percent indicate that they see their dentist as often or more than they did 10 years ago.

But they’re not perfect. The survey also found that  60 percent don’t use mouthwash daily, 47 percent fail to floss daily, and 34 percent brush their teeth only once a day. The findings suggest opportunities to educate the older population about good oral health habits.
