Should you update your kitchen before selling your home is a very common question. And the answer is “It depends.” Look at other listings in your area and look at the recently sold homes. 

 

Factors to consider:

•  What is your budget (if any) for updates?

•  Look at other recently sold, under contract and homes for sale in your area.  What is happening in your market?

•  Do you have the time (or desire) to deal with updates or any major updates?

 

Most buyers, when looking at homes online and previewing in person, consider kitchens to be one of their top priorities when looking to purchase a home. It's important buyers have a certain feeling of cleanliness, freshness and overall sense that they can see themselves (and want to see themselves) in the home. There are certain things you can do that's easy and inexpensive to update your kitchen prior to selling it.

1. EASY UPDATE: GET NEW HARDWARE FOR KITCHEN CABINETS AND DRAWERS

Updating kitchen hardware is such a low-cost update and it can modernize and give a kitchen a new, fresh look and feel. There are many hardware options to choose from and various price points. New cabinet hardware is easy to replace and is an inexpensive kitchen update when selling your house.

Many buyers prefer choosing their own appliances, however, it may be a good idea (if you're not updating your entire kitchen) to leave the existing appliances in place.
